The air seemed bitter that night, but not bitter enough to warrant a real coat. He could live with the loose jacket, but most would say he needed something more. What with being of a seemingly slender build, most would assume there wasn’t enough to him to keep him warm. The cold wasn’t that bad though – not in his eyes. If anything, he felt a little too warm. He’d virtually been dying in the common room – people seemed to forget about something like body heat, and then they wondered why they were so cold when they moved in to a different room. Honestly, most of them just did not think any more. He preferred to stay a little on the cold side – it was less of a shock to the system in his eyes. The reason he was out here was simple – there were too many people in the tower. It was getting close to curfew, hence the sudden influx, but he still craved quiet. There had been crowds in the common room and in the dorm. He had a feeling he wasn’t welcome in the library at the moment and he didn’t want to go to the great hall. No, he was in no mood to be surrounded by people. It wasn’t all that uncommon to be fair, not for him.
He’d been tetchy the last few days, not sleeping right and highly strung – the full moon had been close. He knew full well it was all psychological and there was nothing in it, not really. Still, habits were hard to break and he knew it. Christ knew he’d been trying to break this one for long enough now, nothing was working though a e was close to giving up and going with it. But he knew there were certain people who would have his head if they had to go through another two years of being woken up. No…something had to be done, but he had no idea what. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair and near enough threw himself down on the grass not too far from the edge of the lake. It was quiet here, he had room to think.
Propping himself up on his shoulders, he let his eyes half close and watch the lake. Had he eaten today? No…possibly not. He had overslept and missed breakfast and then opted to study rather than go for lunch. He would go at now, but he couldn’t stand the idea of all those crowds of people. No, he would simply have to get up early and go before the masses. Still, what was one day without? It wasn’t like he was actively starving himself, sometimes he would honestly forget. Others…others he knew he had irritated someone and really did not want the agro from them. He liked his peace and quiet – it kept him calm and sane. He’d snapped at people a lot over the last few days. Roxy for yelling at him during practice – admittedly that was his fault when he reflected later. Various half siblings or others in the dorm for pestering him. People for getting in his way and under his feet. In his mind, they all deserved it at the time, but maybe not so much when he reflected it.
Pushing the hood off his head, he shook his hair out of it’s odd position. It felt strange, all flattened and pushed into places it normally wouldn’t. Running a hand through his hair he sighed and rolled back on to both his elbows. Right now he was calm and he wanted to keep it that way – he wasn’t overly keen on losing his temper with anyone. He had no idea where this rage came from, nor why it was so hard to shift it. It would be nice to know why and how to get rid of it. He had a feeling there was someone behind him, but he didn’t want to appear a fool by saying something if they were only walking past. Turning his head, he looked at them for a moment, weighing up the pros and cons. They hadn’t moved, so he could only assume that they were waiting on him. Well then…
