she waited till she was out the door before putting them on so that she wouldn't wake anyone up. she made her way down the stairs and to the common room. it was empty, the only sound coming from the fire. it seemed that no one had bothered to put it out, lucky lily. she settled down on the couch, knowing that there was no way she would be able to go to sleep after that. even though lily knew that it wasn't real, it still made her feel sad. that dream had showed lily her worst fears, her family dying. she might have fought with her brothers like crazy but still, that had been enough to shake her up. she wished they could be here, so she could be reassured that they were fine. but lily knew she had to wait. lily's eyes stayed fixed on the fire, hoping that it would distract her somehow. unfortunately, the images kept popping up. tears threatened to escape but she stayed strong. she wasn't used to crying over silly little things like a dream that probably wouldn't happen. the only thing that distracted her was the sound of someone coming down the stairs. lily didn't turn back, believing that it was just her imagination. HOPE ITS GOOD! (: |

ALSO, THIS IS GONNA BE CUTE XD
WITH A SIGH, HE ROLLED OVER, STARING BLANKLY AT THE CLOCK SITTING (THANK MERLIN!) INNOCUOUSLY ON HIS BEDSIDE DRESSER. THREE IN THE MORING. GREAT. JAMES PUNCHED HIS PILLOW A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THREW A LEG OUT OF HIS SUFFOCATING NEST OF BLANKETS. ALL AROUND HIM, THE BOY’S DORM WAS FILLED WITH THE SOUNDS OF SOFT, EVEN BREATHING. THE SOUNDS OF SLEEP. AND HERE WAS JAMES, TOSSING AND TURNING LIKE HIS BED WAS ON FIRE. AWAKE. SILENTLY CURSING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS DORMMATES FOR THE INDECENCY OF RUSHING OFF TO THE LAND OF DREAMS WITHOUT HIM.
HE SCRUNCHED HIS EYES SHUT TIGHT, DEMANDING HIS MIND TO CALM THE FUCK DOWN AND GO TO SLEEP ALREADY. UNFORTUNATELY, ALL IT DID WAS CAUSE HIS BRAIN TO GO EVEN FURTHER INTO HYPERDRIVE. JAMES WAS NO STRANGER TO RESTLESSNESS; IT REGULARLY FOLLOWED HIM AROUND. IN FACT THEY HAD A PRETTY STEADY RELATIONSHIP GOING. BUT SOMETIMES, INSTEAD OF WORKING IN HIS FAVOUR, IT DECIDED TO HAVE AN OFF DAY. LIKE NOW. HE COULDN’T GET MACKENZIE OFF HIS MIND, REPLAYING ‘THE ENCOUNTER’ AS HE’D COME TO REFER IT, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BUT IT WASN’T JUST KENZIE THAT WAS THROWING THE GRYFFINDOR OFF HIS SLEEP. IN ALL HIS SEVENTEEN YEARS, BEING A POTTER HAD MEANT SOMETHING, SURE, BUT SUDDENLY IT MEANT SOMETHING. IT MATTERED. HE’D SEEN THE WAY SOME OF THE YOUNGER STUDENTS HAD TAKEN TO LOOKING AT HIM; LIKE THEY WERE WAITING FOR SOMETHING, BEYOND A DISPLAY OF HARMLESS PRANK-FILLED DELINQUENCY OR A GREAT GAME ON THE QUIDDITCH PITCH. JAMES MIGHT’VE PUT IT DOWN TO PARANOIA, EXCEPT FOR THE PART WHERE HE DIDN’T GET PARANOID. HE RAN A HAND THROUGH HIS HAIR IN FRUSTRATION, MUSSING IT UP EVEN FURTHER. NOW HE FELT LIKE HE HAD TO PULL SOMETHING BLOODY AMAZING OUT OF HIS ARSE BY YEAR’S END JUST TO MAKE THEM HAPPY. WHAT EXACTLY, HE HAD NO CLUE... REALLY, IT WAS ALL DRIVING HIM COMPLETELY MENTAL. IT SEEMED THE PROBLEMS KEPT PILING UP, BUT FOR THE LIFE OF HIM, JAMES COULDN’T FIND A RESOLUTION ANYWHERE IN SIGHT.
FOR SOLIDARITY’S SAKE, HE GAVE SLEEP ONE MORE SHOT. IT REMAINED STUBBORNLY ELUSIVE. FINE! IT WASN’T AS IF JAMES WANTED TO LEARN IN CLASS TODAY ANYWAY. RUBBING A HAND OVER HIS EYES, HE FLUNG THE COVERS BACK. A GOOD OLD FASHIONED NIGHT EXCURSION WOULD PROBABLY DO HIM SOME GOOD. FRESH AIR, THAT WAS ALL HE NEEDED. HE NODDED TO HIMSELF, CREEPING OUT OF BED AS QUIETLY AS POSSIBLE. WELL, AS QUIETLY AS HE COULD MANAGE IN THE PITCH DARK WHILE SEARCHING OUT A JUMPER, STOMPING INTO HIS SHOES AND PICKING HIS WAY THROUGH THE SWAMP OF BELONGINGS THAT HAD SPRUNG UP THE MINUTE HE’D RETURNED TO HOGWARTS. JUST AS HE LEFT THE DORM, HE SWIPED HIS WAND OFF THE NIGHT STAND, POCKETING IT SWIFTLY. JAMES NEVER KNEW WHEN TROUBLE WOULD FIND HIM, SO IT WAS ALWAYS IN HIS BEST INTEREST TO BE PREPARED.
NOW HE WAS OUT OF THE DORM ROOM, THE NEED FOR SILENCE FELL DOWN HIS LIST OF PRIORITIES. IT WASN'T LIKE HE NEEDED TO CONSCIOUSLY KEEP THE NOISE ON THE DOWN LOW ANYWAYS; HE'D BEEN SNEAKING AROUND PRETTY MUCH FROM THE WORD 'GO'. JAMES POSITIVELY SAUNTERED DOWN THE STAIRS, HIS SHOELACES DRAGGING BEHIND HIM AS USUAL. AS HE ENTERED THE COMMON ROOM, HE PULLED THE JUMPER ON OVER HIS HEAD TO SAVE TIME. EVEN AT THIS HOUR THE CASTLE GOT RATHER NIPPY.
HE BARELY GAVE THE COMMON ROOM A SECOND GLANCE BEYOND THE FIRE STILL CRACKLING AWAY IN THE HEARTH UNTIL HE NOTICED THE COPPERY GLOW OF A RED HEAD SEATED ON THE COUCH IN FRONT OF IT. JAMES'D KNOW THAT HEAD ANYWHERE. LILY. WHAT IN MERLIN'S NAME WAS SHE DOING UP AT THIS HOUR?
A MOMENT'S DELIBERATION AND HE DITCHED HIS PREVIOUS PLANS, WALKING ON OVER TOWARDS HIS LITTER SISTER. "HEY LILS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP? IT'S WAY PAST YOUR BEDTIME," |
HE TEASED, TAKING A SEAT ON THE ARM REST. AFTER A FEW SECONDS SHUFFLING AROUND, HE FINALLY DREW ONE LEG UP, PLANTING HIS ELBOW ON IT FOR A MORE COMFORTABLE POSTURE. "NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY. DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO OWL MUM AND DAD." ONE LOOK AT HER FACE AND HIS GRIN FELL RIGHT OFF HIS LIPS TO BE REPLACED WITH A FROWN. LILY'S EYES WERE BRIGHT WITH UNSHED TEARS, HER POSTURE SCREAMING OF UNTOLD HURTS, CURLED IN ON HERSELF AS SHE WAS. JAMES' MIND IMMEDIATELY DROPPED ALL HIS OWN ISSUES, JUMPING STRAIGHT TO A MILLION AND ONE CONCLUSIONS. SOME PRAT HAD BROKEN HER HEART? AN ARGUMENT WITH A FRIEND? LEAPING UP, HE WEDGED HIMSELF RIGHT UP NEXT TO HER, PUTTING A COMFORTING ARM AROUND HER SHOULDERS AND TUCKING HER UP SAFELY AGAINST HIS CHEST. MERLIN, HE'D KILL WHOEVER GOT HIS LITTLE SISTER SO UPSET SHE TOOK TO HIDING IN THE COMMON ROOM AT THREE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING! "LILY, HEY, WHAT'S WRONG?" HE ASKED GENTLY, PLACING HIS CHIN ON TOP OF HER HEAD. HIS THOUGHTS TURNED TO THE RAVENCLAW BOY LILY OFTEN COMPLAINED ABOUT. "THAT GIT ACKERLY ISN'T GIVING YOU TROUBLE, IS HE?" [/div] (c) to Zlorecile of caution aka Bellatrix of WA

the second she looked at her brother, she regretted it. the usual grin that was on his face was replaced with a frown. lily wiped at her eyes harshly. she was not about to cry and make james worried. when he switched his position so that lily was now nestled in his arms, she felt a little better. she still wanted to cry but she was able to control those pesky tears. she wanted to tell james everything but if she did, then she would just end up crying. then again, he was her big brother, the one who was always there to comfort her, right? he wouldn't find her to be childish or anything of the sort, would he? of course not. lily let out a sigh and answered his first question. "just didn't want to be in my room" she said, still decided how she should tell him about the dream. she didn't want to spill it all out first. so she eased into to it as slowly as possible, hoping that by the time she told him, her eyes would be free of tears. so she skipped the question for a moment, letting a tiny smile make its way to her face at the mention of alex. "no, he's not" she said, forgetting to mention that that git was actually on her good side now. well kind of. her feelings towards alex were still a little mixed but that would stay a secret from james.
she didn't want her brother interrogating alex before lily even decided if she liked him or not. that would just give that boy a big head and that was the opposite of what she wanted. she pushed thoughts of the boy aside, and looked at her brother. she couldn't continue stalling so she just came out and told him "i had the most dreadful dream... you were in it and so was albus and mum and dad..." now that lily had began with the dream, she couldn't stop. it was like the mere mention had set lily off. "we were playing and something weird took you away. but it came out of nowhere. albus tried to help me get away but it got him to. and then..." by this point, the tears finally escaped from lily's eyes, she felt like she was a little girl again and she hated it. if only james could have chased the hurt away just like he used to chase the monsters she was afraid of away. but just like those monsters, this wasn't real. yet both things had such an impact on the youngest potter. "your bodies fell right in front of me... and you were dead. i went to warm mom and dad and they were dead too. then i felt something cold grab me but i ran as fast as i could... i don't know if i survived or not." she finished the dream, unsure if she would have preferred to die or not.
without her family, was it all really worth it. her grandparents from her dad's side died for him but his life wasn't great when he was younger. but things were different for her than they were for him. for instance, she had amazing aunts and uncles instead of wizard-hating ones. anyways, she waited to see what james would say, hoping that he could make her feel better. and if he couldn't, well, at least she knew that he was alive instead of having to wait till tomorrow.
YESS. AWESOME SIBLINGS FTW! AND THE GIF IS CUTEE! |
