♥♥★☆Another Heart That Don't Belong☆★♥♥
Night time crawled over the castle. Her eyes watched the stars twinkle from the tower window. She heard no other sounds coming from the dorms around her as she figured everyone else was asleep. She hardly closed her eyes at night, and the small clouds of black under her dark orbs was proof enough that she did not sleep at night. A sigh escaped her thin lips as she slid to the side of her bed, and threw the small sheet off her form. She had not even bothered to dress for bed that night, it would not matter anyway. She could not sleep, she would not try, so she would simply just leave the dorms and check out the common room. The boards squeaked under her feet as she moved away from her bed, and to the large oak door that lead to the stairs down into the Gryffindor open rooms. The steps were soft on the thick carpet, and soon Caroline was standing in the empty room wishing someone had been there. No one was around, and her nightly boredom would begin anew. She could not handle it.
The walls felt as if they were closing in on her. She had to force her eyes closed and count to ten. It almost worked this time, and finally she ran for the hole in the wall. The fat lady was asleep, but it hardly mattered to Caroline. She shoved the picture frame open, and dashed out into the darkness of the hallways beyond. The air was immediately cold, and she cursed herself for not grabbing a robe, or at least a jacket. Sometimes she felt like she had the mind of an... well an, something that did not think properly when deciding to run out into the night and escape her own lonely sleeplessness. She stopped in the dark corridor, and doubled over. She forgot she had been running and now an angry stitch had formed in her side. Her hands pressed against her stomach, and she gulped air until she managed to have enough room in her lungs to comfortably stand straight once again. The darkness enveloped her as she moved closer to lean against the closest wall. Carolina softly reached to her pocket, she sighed heavily as she found out she left her wand laying on the table beside her bed. Figures. If you forget you were running, and you run into the night this deep into autumn without a coat, it is only reasonable to think you would also forget you might actually need a wand for something or another. Once again she cursed herself.
Her eyes looked left and then right as she tried to decide where she should go. A set of stairs moved into the shadows. If she moved in that direction there was a good chance she might get stuck on the shifting steps. Caroline decided to take her chance and moved off in that direction without hesitation. It was bad enough that she had forgot her wand, and now she was going to place herself at the mercy of the damn stairs. She took a run at the first declining set, and found herself moving down without any problems. None of them shifted and she wondered if perhaps the castle might sleep at night. It was not the first time the thought of the castle as a living entity had crossed her mind. She had found herself discussing this with several housemates only days before. It seemed like it was more than possible. They had all seen weird things happen within the walls of their beloved school. Most of the things none of them could really explain. She decided to save those ideas for another time and concentrate on the darkness moving around her. She had no clue where she was going, and her feet simply moved her on within the night.
It did not take her long to realize she was just outside the doors to the kitchens. What on Earth had brought her here, she did not know. Normally should would not even think of coming this close to the dungeons alone at night. However, she was not herself these days. The things on her mind were heavy, and she could simply not keep in touch with what her waking body was doing while her mind was trying to figure out problems she really did not want to think about. Sometimes she just confused herself, and that was becoming a problem. She was not brave enough to try to find someone to talk to. Sometimes her shyness was almost crippling, but she had nothing to do about it but keep on swimming. Caroline shook her head, sighed, and reached out to turn the knob that lead into the kitchens. Hopefully she would be alone, and maybe sneak some late snack before trying to find her way back to the Gryffindor tower in the dark. The door squeaked open, and she entered a small sitting room. Several tables lined one wall, chairs shoved neatly under them. She allowed time for her eyes to adjust before she moved any further. Caroline shut the door behind her, and stared into the room beyond. A light snack, then back to the tower... that was exactly what she was thinking.
