Tyson Squinted as he turned the corner into direct sunlight, the small alleyway he had just been in had been shielded from the midday sun by three story shops and houses that lined the street he was now on. He wasted no time in reaching into the back pocket of his jeans and pulling out some old aviator styled sunglasses, a gift from his dad a few years ago, and slapping them on the bridge of his nose to give his eyes some relief. It was unusual of Tyson to wander into town on a Saturday, mainly because he was usually cooped up in his room doing work or around the universities various facilities relaxing or, on rare occasions, working out. Today however, called for a different approach. The weather was spectacular; Tyson had to admit that he hadn’t seen such a cloudless sky for what felt like years. He thought the best idea would be to take advantage of such a rare occasion to get out and about, even if it was to get work done in a more appealing environment than his poorly lit room. He was heading for the town square, a popular location for like minded individuals but was easily large enough to cope with the sheer number of people that will be out on a day like today.
His bag hung lazily from his right shoulder, inside of which there was a notepad, a few scattered pens and pencils and his small laptop computer. He didn’t have a large workload to deal with but Tyson hated simply wandering around town aimlessly if only to enjoy the marvelous sun. It would make him feel like he had wasted a day or a large portion of it anyway, hence why he had brought along his laptop, with it he could read up on some background material or access the university network for some more resources so sift through. At least that was the idea, Tyson knew that eventually he’d browsing through such sites as Facebook and Youtube just trying to pass the time until his brain felt like tacking Physics problems.
His trail of thought was stopped by the abrupt realization that he had entered the town’s central courtyard. As expected, it was packed with people but there was plenty of breathing room, many of the benches, tables and chairs were empty as the majority of people were just passing through. Tyson stopped off at a coffee shop at one side of the square and sat outside in the sun. He took off his sunglasses as he pulled out his laptop and notepad, lazily flipping the pages of it until he found the page he was looking for. To the passer by it would look like meaningless numbers but to him, it was the base for a thought experiment, a theoretical experiment to help explain a concept or an idea. The key word was theoretical; it was an experiment never to be carried out, like the Schrödinger duel reality experiment. A girl approached him seconds later and asked if he’d like anything from the café, Tyson politely asked for a coffee and 2 chocolate chip cookie. As she left to get his beverage, he looked out across the square trying to pick out familiar faces from university.
