It was fairly early in the morning and Stefan had to be up for class. He climbed out of bed and got dressed in the Hogwarts robes before heading down into the common room. He had left his books on a table in the corner and he made sure to grab the two he'd need to start off the day. The nice thing of being a seventh year was you go free periods if you chose not to take a ton of classes and to say the least Stefan didn't choose to take a lot of classes. He took Charms, Care of Magical Creatures, Potions and Transfiguration, so four classes in the year were fairly easy to keep up with along with Quidditch and can't forget about girls. He had Charms and Potions first thing this morning, Charms was first and Potions was right after. He left the common room through the entrance. The dungeons were typically cold all year long so he almost always wore a sweater through the castle, it was much easier than going back to change throughout the day. He had just realized he hadn't had breakfast yet either, he would have to stop by for a muffin or something before going to Charms. He was literally mindlessly walking through the dungeons on his way to the great hall now thinking of what could be quick to eat. He was a quick eater so it shouldn't have been a problem to eat an entire plate of food either. Either way, he'd figure it out when his eyes spotted the food.

Dominique felt like she was running late, as she quickly grabbed her book bag and made her way down to the dungeons. She'd barely had any breakfast as she'd sat and added last minute details to her potions essay and was now scrambling to reach her class on time. She felt the cold draft in the dungeon and felt like even more of a mess, juggling her bags and a piece of toast while pulling on a sweater. She swore under her breath as she felt her bag slide down her arm and had pretty much given up at this point. Hurrying forward, she didn't see where she was going and conveniently ran into a person, her precariously balanced bag and food crashing to the floor.
"Oh, I am so sor - oh shit," she whispered the last part, her jaw hanging open in what was a comical fashion. Her brain had stopped thinking for all of two seconds as she realized it was him who she'd run into. "I - er -" she said, nervously tucking back a piece of her messy hair. No matter how much she hated him, she felt like she had to look presentable, like her life was perfectly fine without him. Taking a deep breath and not letting her lip quiver, she bent down and hastily started picking up her things.
She punctuated each slam of a page or a book with words. "You-might-want-to-watch-where-you're-going-dimwit," she seethed, standing up, kicking away her ruined breakfast and waiting for him to leave her some space so she could storm past him. However, a part of her wanted him to say something, anything to her. It felt like it was yesterday that they'd been roaming the corridors holding hands and now the chill in the air, along with the tension could be cut with a knife.

Stefan had been making his way through the dungeons and towards the stairs leading up to the Entrance Hall. It was while he was making his way that he had been run into by a blonde. He heard her start with an, ”oh I'm so sor...” and than heard a whisper that he couldn't decipher from her. He'd gotten an idea when he saw who it was that he had ran into. It was Dominique Weasley the fifth year Gryffindor Stefan had dated for a short time while he was in his sixth year and she in her fourth. A rumor had been spread about Dominique and Stefan still didn't know it was done by a good friend of his own. Dominique and himself spent a lot of time together when they were together but Stefan had actually been hurt by the rumor, which now he couldn't truly even recall. He eyed her carefully as she fixed a bit of her hair. He hated her probably as much as she hated him and he hated that he was put into a situation where he even had to speak to her. He didn't say sorry for anything because he was pretty sure that he didn't do anything. As she went on to pick up her books he didn't bother to lean down and help her out but did pick up his potion's book that had slipped. He listened to her insult towards him, ”You-might-want-to-watch-where-you're-going-dimwit,” and his eyes brows raised, ”I'm not a dimwit and you're the one that ran into me, especially with you rushing, slow down and you won't run into people,” he told her. He hated tension and it was definitely tension there at the moment between them. He thought about it, it had seemed like only a week ago that they were both walking down this same corridor happy and holding hands and now today they couldn't even say nice words to each other. ”Just stay out of my way,” he told her. He was trying to refrain from any insults, was it possible to be civil? He would try it for now.

She didn't want to make herself look vulnerable or weak, but the truth was deep down she felt both. It wasn't that she wasn't over him. She was. But the way things had ended and the way the whole thing had a lasting impact on her was what terrified her and hurt her more than anything. The pathetic part was, she wasn't even sure of what she did. She remembers every word he said to her but she didn't understand the reasons behind them. He'd refused to believe her and she trusted him with everything.
She scowled at him as he picked up his own book and she was tempted to pick it up herself and throw it in his face. Instead she stood up and huffed, putting her books inside her bag. "Last time I checked, this corridor is a free moving way. So maybe you should look before you blindly turn corners instead of injuring somebody," she retorted, wrinkling her nose.
She felt a shiver down her spine as he told her to stay away and she felt like just curling up and hiding. Instead she pulled herself together, to her maximum height, chin up and seethed back. "You're not the boss of me Krum. I don't do what you say. I might have once but naive, pushover Dominique is gone. You killed her," she said, in a deadly whisper, her eyes narrowing at him.

Stefan was feeling great before the incident, he was looking forward to a great day and that had pretty much been ruined by the girl who had just bumped into him. He wasn't wanting to be around her. That was one thing he hated about days like today when she had to be down here he couldn't just walk in peace to his classes. He was no happy camper and when he wasn't a happy camper the people around him typically weren't either. He listened to her about the corridor being free moving and that he should look before turning corners blindly. ”Yeah, I don't care about that, I was walking therefore typically the person who is rushing is at fault, Dominique it's like everything else, you're at fault right now so stop trying to blame me,” he told her. He was pissed that she was trying to make him look like the bad guy in all this. He was mad at her most days already and this didn't help. Stefan got that weird smile to his face when he was pissed that typically came in a way of laughing when he began to talk. ”Never did you hear me say I was the boss of you, I just told you stay away from me, and maybe it's a good thing that Dominique is gone, she was quite easy to take advantage of,” he bent down and whispered the last part in her ear. He stood back up straight and eyed her. He wasn't moving aside for her, she could make her own way around and probably be late to potions. Stefan didn't care about being late and he had no idea if she did or didn't anymore but Stefan was in no rush and could stand at a deadlock of insults and tension for the whole day.

Dominique didn't say much as she glared back at him. Given, that her day hadn't exactly been going flawlessly but there had still been hope. Now the prospect of smiling for the rest of they day was out the window, thanks to her run in with her ex. She didn't understand how he could hate her so much. She had every reason to hate him but what on earth had she done to him in the first place? Nothing!
"Out of everybody here," she said, gesturing to the empty corridor, "I'm not the one who blames innocent people," she coolly replied, shrugging. She knew that technically speaking it had been her fault but she ad too much of an ego to apologize, especially to Stefan of all the people she could have run into. She didn't look away this time, continuing to narrow her eyes in his direction. If it was supposed to be a test as to who would break first, it wouldn't be her.
She watched the smile overtake his face and raised a brow. As he leaned in, her breath came out in a hiss and she clenched her fists, her hands itching to slap him as he whispered the words in her ear. She shook her head, disgusted beyond belief. She couldn't believe she'd been in love with this..this monster. She didn't know what she'd seen in him. "I can't believe I wasted all that time on you, because if I remember correctly, you loved how naive I was!" she said back. And the elephant in the room was awakened.

Today was not going to be such a pleasant day, he would have to find Nick, that might make it a little better. Though she was two years younger than himself Nick had loved her. They got along so well, he felt at peace when he was with her, he actually felt vulnerable with her. He had been vulnerable for when the rumor spread and it had literally broke his heart. Little did he know one of the good friends he had had spread the rumor because they were jealous of the time he spent with her. He would never forgive her, or at least he didn't believe that he could forgive. He listened as Dominique told that out of everybody in the empty corridor she wasn't the one who blamed innocent people. ”You say that like I do,” he told her with a glare. He should have never opened himself so much with the fifteen year old. He should have known better. He was an adult and he had been in relationships before. He wasn't one to commit and become vulnerable. He knew how to be in a relationship and not be emotionally attached but he was stupid and let himself vulnerable for one of the nastiest breakups he had in his life. Stefan liked her reaction to his whisper. He could almost feel the urge for her to slap him. He was in dangerous territory right now. ”I can't believe I wasted my time on you,” he told her seriously, ”so many other girls in this school, and I date the one who cheats on me.” He was mad, well mad might have been the lesser word to use but nonetheless he was mad. Anger sparked up in him whenever he thought about her and this time wasn't any different. ”It's because of how naive you were that ruined us if you don't remember,” he told her coldly. He was tired of her at the moment and it would just be a bit longer until he was free from her. He had to remember that.

Dom felt exhausted and she'd only begun her morning. The look of pure hatred with which he was looking at her was taking all her energy, all the strength she was using to not let it get to her. He was the first boyfriend she'd had, her first love and he'd left her so ruthlessly, after everything she'd been through. She'd neglected her friends, her family, tried so hard to be accepted into the group of Slytherins all to be left with a broken heart. She could still remember that hollow feeling she'd had, weeks after the breakup, when she'd finally let herself cry for him. He'd changed her, broken her from inside out and she hated him for it.
"No, Stefan. You don't blame innocent people. You just scream at them without them knowing what even happened and then leave them hanging," she said back, narrowing her eyes and then abruptly looking away so he couldn't see the tears beginning to cloud her eyes. She'd avoided him successfully for a year, and here she was confronting him for the first time about everything. Her hands, which were still in fists, shook but she didn't let him see.
His next words though made her look back so fast, she was sure her neck broke for a second. What? Her mouth opened and closed, at loss of what to say and then everything suddenly seemed to click into place. Those looks his friends had given, the way Nick had suddenly started being cold to her, the way he'd used the words "betrayal" and "trust" over and over during that fated fight. It clicked. Lies, rumors and stories floated around about her and he'd believed them. He'd truly believed a stupid rumor that she'd cheated on him.
"That's why you left me?" she asked, her voice hollow, and finally without any anger, only pain. She couldn't keep the lump out of her throat now and she put her hand to her neck, trying to stop the tears from falling. "You believed a stupid rumor somebody started and you just left? I - I don't believe it! I don't believe it!" she said, half crying, half furious. "You were supposed to love me and trust me! I never cheated on you! I fucking loved you, why would I cheat on you, Stefan? Innocent, naive Dominique...does she really seem like the slutty type?" she said, shaking her head and staggering back, moving away from him.
"I wasn't the naive one. You were, Stefan. You fell for it," she said, looking away and turning her back to him so he couldn't see her cry.

Stefan had hated her, he still hated her. He couldn't stay here with her it was getting extremely frustrating to be around her even in the slightly. She was a person who he could be around when he was with her. And now she was a person who he could not stand in even the slightest bit. He believed that she was completely untrustworthy. He couldn't trust her, he had been betrayed by the one girl who he had loved. He was told that he screamed at innocent people and that he would leave them hanging without knowing what would happen. They had been avoiding each other, typically when Stefan saw her he would turn around and find a different way to walk. It was one of the reasons he had dropped a few more N.E.W.T. level classes and stuck with only four for the entire year. At the moment he couldn't talk to her. He wasn't even able to retort to her. He watched as she turned away from him. It was obvious that he wasn't going to turn away from this. He didn't do that and he was sure she knew that very well. He was a young man now and he was trying to take life seriously. Now, when he was around her it was hard to do such a thing. He dropped his seriousness for childlike glares and hatred. When he spoke of her cheating on his he watched as her head snapped back to look at him. Tears were in her eyes and he actually felt a little bad. ”That's why you left me?” he heard come from her mouth. It was full of pain and it actually stung him. ”You believed a stupid rumor somebody started and you just left? I – I don't believe it! I don't believe it!” he heard anger but he also heard her cry as she spoke. ”You were supposed to love me and trust me! I never cheated on you! I fucking loved you, why would I cheat on you, Stefan? Innocent, naive Dominique... does she really seem like the slutty type?” it all came out as a mouthful and truthfully he had to agree with her but he was too stubborn to admit it. She didn't seem like the one who would cheat but he had a retort for it. He was ready for what she shot at him. ”That's just it Dominique, you're naive, you are easily won over by people, how easy is it for someone to take a hold of you and convince you they love you? Or at least how it was?” he said coldly. He believed that because she was so naive that it made someone convince her into cheating on him. It sounded much more stupid when he really thought about it so he didn't. ”No I wasn't naive, Dominique I can't do this, whether if was a stupid rumor or not, I couldn't trust you, I couldn't stand to be near you, I didn't know what was true and what was fake, I went with my gut, I stick with my gut, and I'm not apologizing for it,” he made himself perfectly clear that whether he was wrong or right he would never apologize for what he did, nor did he care what would happen in the future between them. He was never going to be with her again and he wasn't going to try and be friends with her either.

Dominique regretted ever starting a conversation with him. It was as if the whole year she'd spend getting over him meant nothing at all and it was like he was standing there, between the crowd, screaming at her just like that day. She felt like she couldn't breathe and she huffed.
She wanted to go back to how she'd been before she'd run into him, carefree, commitment-free and without any pain or troubles. She'd found it easier to believe that he had never cared for her, that it was just a fling that she'd gotten too involved in. But now, knowing that he'd dumped her because he thought she'd unfaithful, that hurt beyond belief. The whole point of them being together had been being able to trust each other and she'd trusted him with everything and he believed a lie, a rumor, so fast, so easily.
Her stubborn attitude refused to let her see how hurt he really was underneath the anger and she took deep breaths, trying to stop herself from crying but not succeeding at all. She wanted to not let him see her like this but what good what that do, anyway? She didn't know why but she wanted him to know the truth. Even if he moved on and they never got back, she didn't want him to remember her as a cheater. She choked, half an annoyed laugh and half a sob getting stuck in her throat. "Do you hear yourself? Do you really think somebody can be tricked into cheating like that? I may have been naive, but I wasn't a gullible fool, especially around those Slytherin friends of yours! They hated me and you know it and yet I left the people I cared about to be with you. Now you tell me, if I was going to cheat on you, would I have really done that?!" she said, shaking her head.
She felt her knees shaking and went and stood against the opposite wall and leaned against it. Half the words he was saying were passing over her head and she closed her eyes. "If you trusted your gut," she said, looking him in the eye, letting him see just how much he'd hurt her. Let him get the damn satisfaction from it. "You wouldn't have believed a rumor, at least not without asking me about it. You would've seen how much I loved you," she said, holding her bag tightly to her body, to make herself shrink.

If Dominique regretted speaking to him he regretted even being down the same hallway as her. He was tired of arguing even though he was one who could hold it going for days on end. It still took a wear on him. He got frustrated with everything that she was saying. According to her, he believed a lie. Maybe it was stupid of him, but even when a lie of such is passed around it makes it hard in the long run because you still have a hard time trusting. He just wished she would understand that part instead of telling him he's stupid for believing such a thing. He was tired now. He wanted to go curl back up into his bed back at the dorm. He didn't want to face the light of day at the moment. He didn't let this known though. He was strong, he had to be strong. ”Do you hear yourself? Do you really think somebody can be tricked into cheating like that? I may have been naive, but I wasn't a gullible food, especially around those Slytherin friends of yours! They hated me and you know it and yet I left the people I cared about to be with you. Now you tell me, if I was going to cheat on you, would I have really done that?!” he heard it, it rang in his ears for what seemed like days. He had obviously hurt her by what happened but whatever the truth was still hurt Stefan as well. She didn't know that, he wouldn't let her know how bad it feels to have had his heart ripped out by what he found out now was a rumor. He was being more and more stubborn, ”Nick liked you, until what happen, so don't sit there and say that my friends didn't like you, your friends didn't like me, and that's why you spent your time around me,” he retorted to her. Sure it was only part of what she said but it was the only part he could speak about without showing his emotion. He was getting frustrated and he dug his hands into his pocket dropping his charms and potions book. He was sure she knew that he could fly off the handle pretty quick when he got angry and he was trying to hide that part of him. The only bad part of where he placed his hands, his wand was right there beside them. Something an angry Stefan should not have had access to. ”I believed it, okay!” Stefan said quickly and a little snarky, ”I believed that your naive personality could have had you cheating on me. That is what I believed, and you know what I still believe it, I'm not apologizing, I'm not going to say I'm sorry, I'm not going to believe that I believed a rumor, you know I'm not,” he said, well it was more of a half yell and that was when he had to try and tell himself to stop. Thank goodness the corridor was empty otherwise some people might have been hurt but he had nothing to attack other than the girl across the corridor from him which he was trying his best not to do. His hand was clutched to his wand in his pocket and was ready to come out at anytime. He was trying to cool himself but it was proving nearly impossible.

She felt frustrated beyond belief and she just wanted to go up to him and shake him, put some sense into his head because the logic he was giving her was pure rubbish. He was just being egotistical and stubborn because he didn't want to admit that their beautiful relationship had gone down the drain just because he hadn't had the sense to ask her in the first place as to what was going on.
She scoffed, trying to mask her pain although he'd already seen a huge part of it. "Oh, please. You and I both know that Nick and I haven't murdered each other just for Darla's sake. I love her and he obviously cares about her and that's why we tolerate each other. And Nick isn't your only friend. What about that bitch Cathy? Or Nick's bratty sister, Danni? You may not see it because they're angels to and they care for you, just like I did. And they didn't like how much you and I were spending time together so they all put their conniving little minds together and decided to kick me out of the picture. I don't know which one of your friends did it, Stefan, but I'd suspect them all if I were you," she said, nodding at him.
She knew this was as confusing and annoying to him as it was to her because neither of them had known the others' side of the story until now and there was a year long of hatred to back it all up. She sniffled, finally getting a control of her tears. She barely blinked when he dropped his books and stepped closer to him, her mouth twisting in a grimace. "Then you're being an idiot. Okay, say I did cheat on you! Who would I have done it with?! The whole school knew we were together and nobody would be mindless enough to mess with hot-headed, Stefan Krum's girlfriend. If you really believed that I cheated on you, why didn't you bother finding the low life I so obviously did it with? Doesn't seem like you not to!" she spat back.
Her eyes traveled down to his shaking hand and she saw the outline of his wand in his pocket. She knew he could be violent when he could be and as destructive as possible but she saw it as a win to her side. She looked back up, half smirking, her eyes shining with un-shed tears. She stepped closer, their faces inches apart and she whispered, "You don't scare me, Krum."

Stefan refused to believe what she was telling him. Sure in the back somewhere he probably did believe here but he wasn't going to admit it. Stefan was too stubborn to believe the possibility of his friends making such a rumor, there was no possibility for him to believe that. ”Oh, please. You and I both know that Nick and I haven't murdered each other just for Darla's sake. I love her and he obviously cares about her and that's why we tolerate each other. And Nick isn't your only friend. What about that bitch Cathy? Or Nick's bratty sister, Danni? You may not see it because they're angels to and they are for you, just like I did. And they didn't like how much you and I were spending time together so they all put their convincing little minds together and decided to kick me out of the picture. I don't know which of your friends did it, Stefan, but I'd suspect them all if I were you,” Stefan growled a little towards her when he heard her say it. How dare she even suggest it. ”To start, Nick wouldn't ever do that, Cathy's not a bitch, and Danni's practically my second sister, so don't start talking bad about them, they wouldn't do that, I was happy, why would they want to ruin their best friend?” he asked. His voice was nowhere near cool and it was starting to raise. ”Does it make a difference now, we're through, who cares now?” he asked seriously. He looked at her as she spoke to him while stepping closer, ”Then you're being an idiot. Doesn't seem like you not to!” he heard her spat towards him. He glared daggers into her. He was so mad at her and he pulled his wand at the same time as she whispered to him tell him that he didn't scare her. He knew he couldn't attack her and even 'hot-headed Krum' knew that. He cast at the nearest tapestry, ”Incendio,” he said. He had to at that moment. ”Get away from me Dominique, I hate you, so much,” he said. His temper had reached boiling point and he repocketed his wand and pushed himself past her. ”I don't care about you anymore, I don't want anything to do with you,” he told her coldly.

Dom was shaking, trembling, both from anger and hurt and disbelief and she wasn't even trying to mask it anymore. She didn't care if he saw her like this, because she wanted the truth right now and she didn't know how she was going to tell him that. She wanted to know that he really had cared for her once, that their relationship had been real even if the break up reasons hadn't. She just had to know somebody had loved her, truly, even if it was all in the past.
She flinched as he growled at her and then shrunk back from his harsh words. She could feel her defenses crumbling to the ground as her argument spiraled downwards. He didn't believe her and he never would. She opened her mouth and closed it again, not bothering to glare. "You're right. They care about you, in their own ways, and they love you and they don't think very much of me. Obviously they'd try to break us up, 'for your own good' " she said, putting the last words in double quotes with her fingers.
"I care!" she blurted, looking him in the eye so that if he had to believe something, he'd believe this, "Because I need to know it was real, okay. Because I need to know that what they told me, your very same friends was just as much a lie," she whispered, letting her eyes travel to the burning tapestry. She didn't have the energy to try and charm the flames out. Instead she looked back at him, shaking her head.
She felt him push past her and his words ringing in her ears and it was like that very same day, the same words, the same gestures and she couldn't hold herself up anymore. The deja vu was too strong and her fingers dug into the wall next to her as she felt herself slowly sink to the ground, glad that he'd moved away, so he couldn't see. A sob built up in her chest, but she hoped the flames were too loud to not let him hear. "Please don't leave me. Believe me," she whispered as soft as she could to herself.

Stefan ignored the hurt he was causing Dominique. If he actually paid attention to her and the way she was reacting he might have actually cared how he was acting. He knew better than to do that though. He was sticking up for himself and what he believed in. He was not in the mindset at the moment to care about her and probably wouldn't be for a while. ”Why does this matter?” he asked, ”my friends would not do that, they don't stoop that low to break me up, I think you're just trying to put the blame on someone other than yourself Dominique.” She wasn't the type of girl who would put the blame on someone else if she had done the deed she would have admitted it and he knew it, he just wouldn't admit that he knew it. ”I care!” he heard her blurt and he turned towards her now to look at her, ”because I need to know it was real, okay. Because I need to know what they told me, your very same friends was just as much a lie,” he heard her whisper. It wasn't loud so he didn't get all of it and he pulled his wand out again, ”Aquamenti,” he said shooting a jet of water at the tapestry putting out his fire. He sighed. ”Dominique, what we had was real, why would you think it wasn't?” he asked seriously with a frown. He wasn't able to leave now. He'd dug himself deep with the conversation, if you could call it that. He looked at her. ”Dominique, I can't do this, I can't fight with you and I can't live my life the way it has been,” he told her. He was tired of his feelings and he was tired of thinking about the past. He wanted it back to where it was. He wanted to be happy again and not wonder where he went wrong with each day.
