Roxie walked to the library. If anyone asked where she was going and she told them that they would laugh and would not believe her. Roxie wasn't the type to go and study in a library, let alone read for her free time. She never paid much attention in class because it was boring and she had much better things to do than homework and studying. Well that was until she got a warning that if she didn't get good grades and actually pass her classes then she would be kicked off the Quidditch team.
She loved Quidditch and her team needed her. It would be selfish to just ruin things like that. So now she was making an effort. She took things in her own hands and found herself a tutor. Lorcan Scamander, a Ravenclaw who was a friend of hers. He was intellegent enough and willing to help her with her grades and help her study. She was grateful that her friend was doing this for her, he would need a lot of patience in order to do so. Hopefully he wouldn't get frustrated with her and leave her there with no hopes of passing. Or leave her stuck finding another tutor. But that wasn't the only reason she chose Lorcan as her tutor.
Roxie decided to help him in exchanged. And what would he need from this 5th year Gryffindor? He needed girl advice. Roxie had witnesses first hand about how bad he was with girls. At first she found it very adorable, everything about this Ravenclaw was adorable. But after a while she was kind of concerned about it and afraid that if she didn't teach him the arts of talking to girls he would never get a girlfriend and be single forever! Okay maybe she was exaggerating, but she felt the obligation to help her friend in this situation.
Not only that, but she also found out something quite interesting. One of her sweet Slytherin friends, Natalie, had a crush on Lorcan. Of course the boy was way to oblivious to even notice. And he never would, not unless it was spelled out for him. Now Roxie wasn't just going to tell him about it, that would ruin the whole fun of her knowing about it. Plus she was planning on keeping it a secret so she wouldn't break her friend's trust. But she could always drop hints, ask him if he thinks Natalie is pretty.
She took a seat at a table in the library and put her bag on a seat saving it for Lorcan as she took out her books, she was surprised she actually remembered to bring them this time. The first time she was ever tutored she had to run back up to recieve them.

Lorcan had done his fair share of tutoring in his six years at Hogwarts. He was always on top of his own grades, and whenever someone asked him for help, he just couldn't say no. He was a kind-hearted guy and enjoyed helping people, especially his friends. He was capable of tutoring in most subjects, except for those he'd never taken. Most people usually asked for help in their core classes anyway, so it didn't affect him too much. His strongest subject was by far Care of Magical Creatures; Potions and Arithmancy followed behind them. He wasn't sure what he'd be tutoring Roxie in today. He'd forgotten to ask. He was prepared for anything though.
It was a rather long walk to the library from Ravenclaw tower. That was the only exercise he got though was from walking around the castle. His friend Roxie Weasley, on the other hand, had asked him for tutoring so she could keep her grades up to remain on the Quidditch team. If Lorcan had been a diehard Quidditch fan, he wouldn't have tutored her. They were in different houses after all. But Lorcan didn't care much for sports, and it didn't matter to him who won the Quidditch Cup. He would only care if there were some sort of academic competition. Or wizard's chess.
Lorcan walked into the library. Just as it usually was, there were a few students scattered about but not many. He spotted Roxie sitting in a fairly secluded area. That was good, he didn't want her getting distracted. He and Roxie hadn't been friends for a long time, but he enjoyed her company. He liked having outgoing friends, so that there wasn't much pressure on him to keep a conversation going. being around her was funny because she was always pushing him to learn to flirt. At first it had annoyed him, but now, he's come to realize that that's just Roxie for ya. He'd never flirted, though he wish he had the confidence to do so. It would be great to use on his crush, Natalie. He strolled up to Roxie. "Hey," he said simply.

Roxie glanced at the clock for the 5th time and sighed noticing that she was actually early. Why did she actually arrive before she was supposed to? Last time she checked she was the one who arrived late. She was slacking at this whole reputation she was upholding. She decided to skim through her Arithmacy book. She had no idea why she even decided to take the class. The whole thing was a pain. Oh yeah, she was forced into taking it so her friend wouldn't be alone. Then friend dropped the class. By the time Roxie learned this it was too late. Now she would have to take OWLS on it as well. She was so screwed.
Suddenly she heard footsteps and looked up at Lorcan as he said a simply hey to her. "Hey? is that all? How about a 'how are you today'. Do I also need to start teaching you the basics of conversation as well?" she asked him teasingly with a small smile. She wasn't being mean, or at least she wasn't trying to. She was sure Lorcan knew she was kidding with him and just messing with him as usual. He was used to her behaviour by now. Or so she hoped so at least.
She motioned for him to sit in the seat next to her. "I realized that I forgot to tell you what subject I needed your help in. Are you also a mad genius in Arithmancy?" she asked him hoping the answer would be yes. That would make the whole situation much more conveniant and not a waste of time. "Oh and thanks for this. I owe you one." she added in with a small smile. She was actually pretty sure she owed him a lot but she would prefer not to bring up her moral debt.

"Hey? is that all? How about a 'how are you today'. Do I also need to start teaching you the basics of conversation as well?" Lorcan just smiled and shook his head. He'd known Roxie long enough now to know she was only joking. It wasn't something he usually picked up on unless he knew the person fairly well, and he'd known Roxie for a while now. She was a good friend to him, and he tried to be the same to her. They didn't really have much in common, but that was a good thing. If she were as shy as him, their friendship would have gotten nowhere. He didn't have many friends, so he was very glad to have Roxie. He felt like he could trust her with anything, but yet, he'd never entrusted anything in her. He was one to keeps things to himself, but he wouldn't lie about what's going on with him at any time. It just has to be brought out of him.
After she motioned him to sit down, Lorcan did so, taking a glance at the book she was looking at. Arithmancy, one of his favorites. "I realized that I forgot to tell you what subject I needed your help in. Are you also a mad genius in Arithmancy?" He smirked slightly. "I'm pretty good," he replied modestly. He knew that was a understatement. He'd had an O in that class every year since he started taking it his third year. He just wasn't one to brag. Roxie probably knew that by know anyway. Pretty good equals outstanding when conversing with Lorcan. This wasn't the first time he had tutored her, but he didn't know she was taking Arithmancy. Most people argued that it's the hardest class offered at Hogwarts. It's equivalent to a mathematics class in the muggle world. Wizards didn't have much use for math, except perhaps to sound smart. "No problem," Lorcan replied after she had thanked him. He had no idea how she could repay him, and it didn't matter very much to him. He enjoyed helping a friend. Well, he could actually think of one thing he could use help on. It wasn't schoolwork of course. Or sports. Or anything like that. It was a girl.

Roxie smiled as she noticed Lorcan just shake his head at her. Such a usual reaction she received from the boy. But it was better than no reaction at all or a negative one. Many people did get confused about their friendship. Now that Roxie thought of it people were confused with many of Lorcan's friendships. he seemed to have befriended a lot of loud people. But that was a good thing. Because if it were two equally quiet people, the conversation would easily get awkward. He needed someone as loud as her to balance them out and actually kill the tension in the air.
She sighed in relief at his response. In Lorcan language that meant he was a mad genius. And yes he even had his own language now. One that consisted of very few sentences. "Pretty good better be enough to help me pass or else I will be mad at you until I need help again." she said teasingly with a light smile as she shook her head. "I am joking, but not about the part that it better be enough to help me pass. Because I am kind of desperate for that." she added in. She did need help but she probably wouldn't carry out the threat. Being mad at quiet people like Lorcan never worked out so well on Roxie's side because she always felt bad about it.
Roxie knew that even if Lorcan needed help with something in return he probably wouldn't ask. "Okay, but don't be shy if you think of anything." she said as she glanced back down at her arithmancy book. She didn't despise the subject because it was boring and hard to pay attention to. She despised it because it took a lot of hard work. But Roxie didn't want to drop the class yet. It could come in handy for the future and she was too stubborn to give up yet.

Lorcan ran his hand though his hair, remembering he hadn't brushed it today. He typically let his hair air dry and didn't bother fixing it. He usually only brushed it when he went out to Hogsmeade or had another reason to do so. He always brushed his hair whenever he knew he would be seeing Natalie. She probably didn't notice the difference between his brushed and unbrushed hair. They're honestly wasn't much difference between the two. Though as it grew longer, it looked messy. It didn't bother him, and there was only one person out there to impress, besides his teachers.
Lorcan heard her sigh. She probably had already guessed that he was good at it. "Pretty good better be enough to help me pass or else I will be mad at you until I need help again." Lorcan smiled and nodded a couple times. Lorcan considered himself to be a good tutor; he was able to explain things in a way that made things simpler. And since he'd tutored Roxie before, it would be even easier for him. He had known her since they're pre-hogwarts days, when his family had gotten together with other friends' of his parents families. They were all together, the children were playing, and Lorcan had been sitting on the sidelines. Roxie invited him to play, and he had really appreciated that. Since then, they'd begun getting closer, and she was one of his best friends. She had tons of friends though, so he didn't expect she thought that way in return. It didn't matter though; he was most satisfied with their friendship.
"Okay, but don't be shy if you think of anything." Lorcan's minded drifted off momentarily as he thought of Natalie. He wouldn't begin to know how to ask Roxie for advice on her. He hoped she'd bring it up herself. For now though, he was going to help Roxie with her Arithmancy. "What are you having trouble with?" he asked, looking up at her, as he rested his elbows on the table. In his own Arithmancy class, he was learning very advanced problems that surely Roxie wouldn't be learning at her level. Not to say she wasn't smart, of course. But everyone has the strengths and weakness. Lorcan admired her athleticism. he had done horrid in his flying class first year, and with his luck, he'd get knocked with bludgers left and right if he played Quidditch. He secretly cheered for the Gryffindor team, really only because he knew a few of them, and the Ravenclaw team was having a difficult time getting people signed up this year.

Rox noticed as he nodded a couple of times and smiled. She had full faith that Lorcan would help her. After all he had tutored her in the past and it did make a difference. Plus he knew exactly how to help her out. They have known each other since they were kids which made them childhood friends. Rox had a lot of childhood friends but each other them were equally special to her. She never really liked rating her friends, she believed she was allowed to have more than one best friend. Because someone was allowed to have a lot of people close to them. That type of thing happened. Even though Rox didn't really consider herself that popular. Just very friendly with a lot of people.
Lorcan was basically the same as he was when younger, except now he had longer hair. But back then he was shy and quiet. All the kids would play and he would just watch on the sidelines. one day Roxie got the bravery to invite him to join her and the others in the game they were playing and she would constantly give him tips and pointers on how to do so. Ever since then they had been good friends. They were pretty close. Lorcan was someone she occasionally talked about her problems with since he was so quiet and probably wouldn't tell anyone else about them.
He asked what she was having trouble with. "Well currently we are on Chapter 2, section 3. Our class is a bit slow. Surprisingly there are people worse than me. Isn't that shocking?" she asked him with a smile because she was always positive that she was the worst in the class and it was kind of nice when that was proven wrong. "Oh I just want to let you know that I have a new goal. I am going to get you a date for the Halloween dance. And don't even try pulling off the whole 'i'm not going' crap because you're going." she told him sternly with a smile. First she would hear his response. Then she could urge him to come in a group with her and Nat. Or maybe just with Nat. That idea sounded better for her matchmaking needs.

Lorcan thought back to some of the earlier chapters in the basic arithmancy textbook Roxie's class was using. Arithmancy was one of those classes that once you finally learned all the basics in the first five or so chapters, it became easier after that. The second chapter was about reading and understanding number charts. The arithmancy professor at Hogwarts had a knack for explaining things more complicating than necessary. Of course, he was brilliant, but she couldn't bring the work down to the students' level. Unless they were like Lorcan; they would do just fine. It would only take a little time for him to explain it to Roxie. He hoped Roxie didn't have any plans for a while. He didn't want to hurry and get it over with. He enjoyed chatting with her, and that girl could talk for days on end. And Lorcan loved to listen. She made a comment that it was shocking she wasn't the worse in class. "I'm not shocked," he said kindly with a small smirk. He wasn't lying by any means, but he kind of knew how she'd respond to that; telling him he's just being nice, but he'd just shrug it off as always. It didn't bother him; he liked being nice.
"Oh I just want to let you know that I have a new goal. I am going to get you a date for the Halloween dance. And don't even try pulling off the whole 'i'm not going' crap because you're going." she told him sternly. He smiled, looked down at his feet, and shook his head. Roxanne Weasley, the matchmaker. He understood that she was tired of hearing him say no when it come to stuff like that, but he didn't like the thought of a blind date and the expectations girls may have of him. It sounded like fun, he had to admit. He'd have to hear more of her plans. "Good luck," he said, leaving it unclear as to whether he wished her luck getting him to go or getting him a date. He would go with a group of friends or even just one friend. He just hoped Roxie wouldn't set him up with a stranger.
