natalie's usual smile was replaced with a frown as she turned the page in her book. she wrote down things that she believed would be important, then erased then because she felt they were pointless. actually, she felt this was pointless. no matter how many times she read the book, she still did not understand it. see, young natalie had dyslexia and was unable to read the words perfectly. it took her five times, sometimes more just to be able to understand what she was reading. it might not have seemed like much, but when you had an hour to read five chapters, it did become much more difficult. she re-read the paragraph and finally moved on to the next one only to get exasperated with all the reading. natalie hated studying, it just made her feel idiotic. she slammed the book shut and placed it inside her backpack before picking it up and swinging it over her shoulder.
natalie walked out of the library, and out of the hogwarts castle. it was a peculiarly warm day, so she loosened her tie and pulled up the sleeves of her sweater. she walked past the crowds of people and continued walking till she reached the black lake. she got close to the edge and bent down so she could let her fingers touch the surface of the water. she smiled, it wasn't uncommonly warm but it wasn't annoyingly cold either. she dropped her bag down and dropped down on to the ground as well. she removed her shoes, rubbing her feet. natalie loved her shoes but they did not love her feet. she removed her stockings and let her feet go into the water. she sighed softly before closing her eyes. this felt nice, so calm which was a rare sight around the young girl. she almost wished she could jump in but she was too chicken to do it alone. so she stayed on the ground, hoping one of her friends would venture out here.

  Roxie had been bored all day. It seemed as if everyone had something occupying them at the moment other than her. Her friends either already had plans or hanging with other people and she didn't want to intrude on them and be a nuisance. Then there were her other friends who were studying. And like she would ever consider spending her free time studying. Even if it was with a friend. So she was best off exploring the grounds and just finding whatever entertainment she came across. Whether it was completely lame or actually somewhat amusing.
She walked outside on the grounds again by herself. She skimmed around in hopes of someone as pathetic and lonely as her with nothing to do on that beautiful day out. She stopped in her steps and smiled at the familiar figure near the Black Lake. This figure was currently standing in the shallows of the water. It was actually one of her slytherin friends, Natalie Beaumont. She was a very sweet girl and was fun company to have around.
Roxie slowly crept up to Nat trying not to be heard. She slid off her shoes as she was a few feet away. She walked into the lake beside her and quickly splashed the girl, the water didn't reach above her waist, only to her theigh. Roxie gave a small giggle. "Sorry Nat. It was too tempting." she apologized to the girl hoping that she didn't upset her too much. She gave her friend a quick hug and still stood in the water, loving how refreshing it was. She was kind of wishing to go for a swim now and sort of longed for it. "So what brings you here?" she asked conversationally as she looked straight ahead.

as much as studying had frustrated natalie, she had to admit that her moodiness was slowly wearing away. the silence was relaxing her, and she was close to falling asleep. natalie pulled the rubber hand off of her hair, letting the black locks fall past her shoulders. she had almost forgotten that she had her hair up, something she only did when she was studying. otherwise, she hated it because it made her head feel weird. natalie was slowly drifting into sleep when she felt water hit her skin. she quickly opened she eyes and looked around to see who was about to get yelled at by the slytherin girl. natalie was nice, until you messed with her. then it be better to run before she threw the worst fit in the world. luckily, natalie wouldn't waste her breath by yelling because the person that had splashed her was roxie. she was natalie's long time friend, mostly because they just clicked when they met.
roxie was one of the few girlfriends that natalie had. she wasn't all dramatic and stuff like that, and they could joke about everything without getting mad. she got up and shook the water out of her head. now that she was covered, well partly, in water, natalie was a bit colder. she wasso going to make roxie pay for that. "it's okay roxie, but you better be prepared for my revenge" natalie joked. she hugged her friend back and went further into the water. the cold was slowly creeping up on her, but she knew after a while it would just fade away. the sun was beating down on them, so it wouldn't be long before natalie would be dying to stay in the water. "just got annoyed with studying." natalie said as she crinkled her nose. roxie knew about her distaste for studying, though she didn't know why exactly nat had so much trouble with it. it wasn't something that natalie just spread around.
mostly because she didn't want people to annoy her with it or feel bad for her. "and you" nat asked

Roxie smiled amused as her friend walked further into the cold water which was very refreshing on such a warm day. If anyone saw the two girls they would surely get in trouble with a prefect. Even if being in the Black Lake wasn't against the rules, this may count as "improper behaviour" or something along those lines. But what was life without some risks to be taken? Roxie followed her friend further into the water too prideful to be a wimp and stay where she was.
She smirked when she mentioned revenge and shook her head amused. "Was that a threat Nat? You should know better than to threaten me. I am too cool for you to threaten." she replied teasingly with a small laugh. She was kidding, she always loved to joke around by pretending to be arrogant. And her friends usually knew she wasn't serious. She had a feeling she should keep her eyes open because Natalie would probably go through with that threat when Roxie was least expecting it.
Roxie nodded understandingly. She knew Nat hated studying, but she never questioned why. Perhaps because Roxie also hated it for one reason. Because it was studying. The whole process was boring in general and kind of a waste of time. "Welcome to my life. I despise it so much. But I have to in order to stay on the Quidditch team and not fail out of school." she said. Her mom would be so angry if she ever failed out of school and ended up being a bum for her whole life.
She simply shrugged when the question was redirected at her. "I was just roaming around the grounds and the castle. Everyone either has plans or is doing some homework assignment." she said with a shrug as she reached and grabbed a pebble and threw it into the lake as it skipped 5 times. She smiled to herself.

natalie smiled as she finally got used to the water's temperature. natalie thought about soaking her whole body, but she knew that she would regret it as soon as she had to go back to her dorm. though her dorm itself was cozy, the dungeons were just the opposite. natalie would always rush to get to her dorm as soon as she entered the dungeon. yeah, it was obvious that she wasn't like other slytherins that enjoyed being further away from all the other houses, as well as enjoyed the eeriness of the dungeons. natalie shook her head and realized that she had gone a bit too deep into the water. natalie didn't mind, but she knew she would get in trouble. but who cared, she was already in trouble for something or other, so what else could they do to her?
natalie laughed at roxie's comment. "yeah, keep telling yourself that roxie, maybe one day you'll believe it" she joked. natalie did have to admit that roxie was cool. that was one of the reasons that she started hanging out with her more. like roxie, she was kind of like one of the guys except that they could actually talk about clothes and some girly stuff that natalie secretly loved. natalie shrugged. there really was no reason for her to keep her grades up aside from herself. natalie didn't want to just give up because of something that just took more time. plus, she would hate to see her dad's face if he knew that natalie had failed. he was the only person he cared about, and failing him would just kill natalie.
other than that, she wasn't really involved in many things. she liked quidditch but she was afraid of heights. "but it's worth it" natalie added. roxie was the only reason she even went to the quidditch games. she was sure the girl would kill her if she didn't. "i know what you mean" she complained. every single time she had asked her friends to hang out, they just said they needed to do something else. and when she was busy, like today, they decided that they were suddenly free. "i haven't been able to hang out with lorcan since the last hogsmeade trip because of homework" natalie said, mentioning their mututal friend and natalie's long-time crush.
roxie didn't know anything about natalie's crush, though nat was dying to tell her. still, it wasn't something that was easy to bring up in normal conversation.

Rox watched as Nat got deeper. Too deep for Roxie's taste. She didn't feel like getting every piece of her clothing wet. It meant the effort to dry it later on. Something that she would only end up procrastinating until the last minute. But she was already deep enough and they were only within 1 foot from each other so they were still in talking distance without having to scream to each other. The thought was sort of amusing. She was pretty sure if anyone saw them screaming in the water they would think that the girls had gone mad. They probably would think that just by seeing them now. Not that Roxie minded or anything. let them take guesses about their mental stability. Roxie didn't care.
Roxie gave a laugh at Nat's response. "Oh, I will." she said with a smile at the girl. She was only kidding. Roxie wasn't cool. When she acted cool she was just mocking someone and was just kidding around. Unless by cool the person meant personality wise. Not someone who thinks they are the best thing that ever set foot on the planet. Rox couldn't tolerate people like that. Arrogance like that just got under her skin and made her want to punch something or yell some sense into their hollow little heads!
Roxanne nodded, Quidditch was one thing that Roxie could look forward to during school. well besides seeing her friends and pranking. It was just something that kept her busy so she wouldn't run around and cause havoc down the halls. "But even without Quidditch I would have to so I wouldn't get disowned...so yeah." she said with a chuckle. Because she was sure her mom would murder her if she failed out of Hogwarts.
Rox smiled at the mention of Lorcan. The shyest boy on the planet probably. A mutual friend of theirs, but Nat was definately closer to the boy than Roxie. "That boy needs to get out more. I think he gets annoyed with me at times. I always try to get him to be more social and flirt with girls." she said with a chuckle. Roxie has been doing that to him since they first met. It was supposed to be a joke but now she took it quite seriously.

natalie was glad she wasn't that short because she would have surely gotten all her clothes wet by now. the water was mere inches away from her skirt so every time natalie moved a little, the bottom got wet. she knew she would regret it later but she loved the water too much to move. natalie noticed that roxie wasn't paying much attention to her, so she took the opportunity to splash her friend. unfortunately, she was too far away so roxie only got sprinkled if anything. nat didn't mind, she was having too much fun. if it were up to nat, she would spend every single day out on the grounds instead of in a stuffy classroom. "and that was only the first part of my revenge" nat said. she would probably get back at her friend later but for now she was just enjoying the distraction.
natalie let out a small giggle. roxie wasn't like natalie. nat was actually pretty cocky but not to the point of extreme annoyance. so when roxie acted like it, it was just hilarious. now, natalie didn't go around just saying she was the best thing around but she did think of herself as pretty awesome. if she didn't, then she probably wouldn't be as fun as she was now. natalie thought about herself slumped in a corner thinking she wasn't awesome. god, that would have been boring. she laughed at the thought, though she looked a bit crazy laughing to herself. "i know what you mean. my dad might not disown me but eh would give me that disappointed look that i hate!" natalie exclaimed. it was difficult being the only child, and most importantly the only girl.
then again, roxanne's family was actually famous so it would look pretty bad on them. as far as natalie knew though, roxie and her family never let it go to their head. that's probably another reason why she liked roxie so much. natalie tried to hide her jealousy as she thought of lorcan flirting with other girls. luckily, he wasn't that good at it, as natalie very well knew. it always bothered her but apparently there was a good side to him being a horrible flirt. "oh my gosh, roxie calm down with all the flirting. i mean, he should probably practice with one of us before you make him flirt with another girl" natalie said.

Roxie dazed off once again as she usually did. Mostly because as she looked around she saw the Quidditch pitch and her mind wandered to that. She was wondering what strategy they would be using this year now that Tyson was captain. But he was pretty skilled and she had faith that they were going to win the House cup. They had an amazing team full of skilled players, her being one herself. She was brought back into reality when she felt sprinkles of cold water upon her.
She turned to Natalie with an amused smile and rolled her eyes with a laugh. "Oh, I am so scared. Because those few nice sprinkles of refreshing water has me trembling in fear." she said sarcastically with a giggle. She was just taunting the girl. Probably even provoking her to improve her methods of revenge. Roxie raised an eyebrow as Nat laughed to herself a bit. But she decided not to question it and pretend not to notice. Perhaps some things were best unheard and unknown of.
Rox nodded at Nat's statement about her father not disowning her. "Okay disown might have been an overstatement of some sort but I would also receive that look and worse, a really long lecture." she said. Those things were dreadful. Having to sit alone in a room with her mom as her mom went on and on about why school and her grades were important and how she couldn't afford to let them drop. Other useless terms and sentences that she never remembered. It was probably worse than detention.
Rox gave a small laugh at what Nat said about calming down about the whole thing. "What? You want him to end up single forever?" she asked perhaps overexaggerating again. "Okay, you're right. I will let him practice on you since you obviously get so bothered when he attempts to flirt with other girls." Roxie said. She was kind of kidding but she did notice how Nat got when he was flirting with others. But Rox always ignored it and shook it off as nothing.

natalie stuck her tongue out at roxie, finding her taunts to be quite amusing. any normal person would have gotten in a bad mood and stormed off, but natalie wasn't that normal. she would get back at roxie at some point, though she would need to get more supplies for it. boy, her friend was i for a bit of trouble. unless natalie didn't remember, like always. that was the only reason roxie got away with most things. "i knew it! aren't i such a good revenge type person" natalie said. god, she truly was a bit nuts. then again, so was roxie. maybe she needed some new friends. might as well become a boring old person. natalie honestly didn't know what was going on in her head, all these random thoughts just popped up and she was entertaining herself. she had to be crazy. anyways, she laughed at the thought of roxie being lecture.
not because she liked seeing her friend in trouble, but because of what natalie did when they were lecturing her. natalie usually got sad before her dad even started talking, so she didn't pay attention to half of the things he said. instead she would think about how she could be a better child. then she would laugh at the "good natalie" and would get in even more trouble. she wasn't good when it came to lectures. it was even worse when a teacher lectured her. then she just thought about a hyppogryf breaking in and taking her away. okay, she was officially nuts. "that sounds horrible, how do you stand it?" nat asked. natalie shrugged her shoulders. she really didn't want lorcan to be alone forever, but she also didn't want him to be with some other girl. natalie's eyes widened as soon as roxie said that. did she really noticed that nat got jealous?
she couldn't have, natalie was always cool around lorcan. or at least she thought she was, maybe she slipped up and roxie noticed. "what... i mean.. what, no i don't... that's just.. umm... dumb" natalie stuttered. if roxie didn't know about her crush, she would surely know now. natalie was a complete fail.
