lily let the scent of all the wonderful goodies fill her nose. god, how she wished that she could devour everything in the store at that moment. unfortunately, she could barely let one morsel of candy touch her lips let alone hundred. she sighed as she grabbed as much candy as she was allowed to eat. she sneaked a few extra pieces as well, they would all be disposed of anyways. lily paid for her candy then left the candy shop less happy than when she walked in. lily wished she could devour all the goodies that her little heart desired, but too much sugar was not good for her. aside from that, she always gained weight so quickly, much more than her brothers. those lucky bastards. lily stopped thinking about her brothers' amazing digestive system for a moment to go into gladrags wizardwear. her robes had gotten much too big for the tiny little girl so after writing to her parents for more money, they had finally given it to her. lily knew they were worried with her tremendous weight loss, but it was easy to fool them when she was her father's little girl.
lily sighed at how her father would feel if he knew that the young girl had an eating disorder before her train of thought was interrupted by the store-keeper. she asked lily what she needed, and as soon as lily told her what needed to be done, she quickly got to work. twenty minutes later, lily was free to roam the store while the store-keeper worked on her robes. she said they would be finished before she was supposed to return to the castle, but lily wanted to see what attire there was. aside from there being robes, the wizard shop also had a variety of dress robes. lily's eyes lit up as she saw an emerald green dress that she was sure would go great with her hair, green usually did. lily skipped off to try it on only to be disappointed by the fact that it didn't fit. lily sighed before slipping it off, changing, and putting it back in it's place. hopefully one that she would be thin enough to actually wear it. she continued looking through the racks until she got bored and decided to leave the shop.
once outside, lily realized that she didn't really have another destination in mind. she looked both ways before taking a left and walking past honeydukes. lily soon found herself in the midst of a crowd and to make matters worse, she was feeling a bit light-headed. lily grabbed a hold of her head and her legs started to give out of it. she was sure she would have fallen if it wasn't for someone holding on to her.

Hogsmeade. Always a fairly amusing day for third years and above; a chance to get away from the school grounds and have a bit of fun, whether it be shopping, visiting the Shrieking Shack or just popping into the Three Broomsticks for a warm drink. There was plenty to do here, no chance of the average Hogwarts student getting bored. Even though there was a chilly breeze swooping through the small town, and the dark clouds seemed as though one touch would make them start pounding the streets with rain, this did not stop most of the Hogwarts students from dressing up cosily and spending the day in the country's only completely magical town. Including Daniel Greyback. Bundling himself up in his favourite black jacket, and armed with a small bag of galleons, the Gryffindor made his way down to Hogsmeade, sometimes stumbling on the rocky path that connected the two magical dwellings. When he finally got to the end of the path, a rare grin flitted onto his face as he observed the typical December Hogsmeade rush. Witches and wizards, goblins and elves, hags and one creature that looked like a troll, were bustling through the streets, rushing from shop to shop, holding their thick coats and robes close to their skin while they rushed into the warmth of their next destination. The plethora of characters that inhabited the small village was pretty astonishing.
To avoid the blitz of magical folk, Daniel slipped into a less popular shop, Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop. No self-respecting Hogwarts pupil went in Scrivenshaft's unless they really need to. Even Daniel, who wasn't exactly the typical student, didn't go in there. Scrivenshaft was a petulant old man of about seventy years, who never missed an opportunity to complain about the younger generation. It didn't help that he was virtually deaf too. Unfortunately, Daniel's last raven feather quill had been snapped by Hermes, his vexatious owl, so he badly needed something to write with. As soon as he entered the store, the dismal sound of Scrivenshaft shouting at a tiny second year about "the dreadful beings of society". "Maybe I can leave it for today...", Daniel mumbled to himself, slowly backing out of the door, leaving the terrified Hufflepuff boy alone, unable to move. He turned around, and was swept up in a crowd of Hogwarts sixth years, making their way towards the Three Broomsticks. This was definitely a bad point to Hogsmeade visits; it was always extremely busy. There was a huge variety in the Hogwarts students: from small Hufflepuff third years, excitedly crowding around Honeydukes, to the burly Slytherin seventh years, sneaking into the Hog's Head for a quick firewhiskey. Add this to the inhabitants and locals of the small village, and all the other masses of magical beings, and you have yourself a Hogsmeade size wave of babbling, chattering, grumbling people.
Daniel looked around, trying to spot someone he knew (not hard, considering how many people were squashing him), when he saw a red-headed girl stumble a little. Now, this is pretty normal in such an array of people; however this girl looked as though she was going to collapse. Daniel moved closer to her- not easily, let me tell you that- and on inspection, he could tell that this fiery head of hair belonged to none other than Lily Potter. He didn't really know her too well, she was in the year below him. She lurched a little and Daniel reached out and held her steady. "Lily? You alright?", he questioned with a rare concerned tone. She honestly did look like she was about to faint any minute, and she looked pale as death. The elbow that he was gripping to make sure that she didn't keel over felt very bony indeed; she looked like she could do with a good meal.

this wasn't the first time an episode like this had occurred, though it was the first time that it happened in public. she knew that she should have eaten that morning. her stomach had grumbled louder than it ever had before. but her week without food wasn't up yet. see, lily wouldn't eat until she was completely ravenous which was usually a week after her last meal. once the week was up, she would eat as much as her little heart desired then dispose of it all. unfortunately, she was becoming more and more ravenous as time passed. still, lily had kept herself controlled though she was regretting it by the minute. she continued swaying, hoping that people just thought she was being pushed around by them. lily thought about the goodies in her bag. as soon as she was able to regain her composure she would have to devour as much as she possibly could. if she wanted to continue with her weight loss, then she would have to. the mere thought depressed lily but there really wasn't much she could do. if she to faint, then someone would be concerned, and they would end up finding out. no, lily would not let that happen.
although she knew she would have to explain later, lily was glad that one person had noticed that she was moments away from fainting. she thought of countless excuses, but her thoughts were much too jumbled and she was still feeling dizzy and light-header. after about a minute of so, she felt a bit better. she looked to see who had saved her and smiled at him. daniel was in her house but he was a bit older than him. still, they met at some quidditch party that her brother loved to throw. she had only talked to him for a good five minutes before she was forced to leave, but still. apparently, it was enough for him to save her. she thought about his question for a second. she wasn't really sure what to say though. if he meant was she alright at the moment, then the answer would be yes. but if he meant if she was all right in general, well the answer to that would have been different. lily realized thats he might have kept him waiting a bit long for her response so she finally responded with a quick "yes". lily knew that he was probably thinking why she was close to fainting, any normal person would be thinking about it.
she could either say that she had run late and missed a meal, but even then people didn't faint just for missing a meal. she could say it was the whole diabetes thing but it really wasn't something that she went around telling people around. so she said the only thing that came to her mind. "thanks for saving me, i felt a bit suffocated with all the people around me" lily lied. hopefully he believed it. lily wasn't the world's greatest liar but she was becoming better at it. if she hadn't, then her family would have noticed her eating disorder by now. she avoided looking daniel straight in the eyes, feeling a bit guilty for lying to the boy that saved her from fainting in front of everyone. she knew that not looking at him might make it obvious that she was lying, but lily didn't care at that moment. she was too guilty to care.

So Daniel wasn't exactly used to dealing with fainting girls. Hell, he'd never even seen anyone faint before. Except for that one Hufflepuff who collapsed when she saw the Giant Squid... that was pretty hilarious. But this girl, Lily, didn't look too well at all. She had a sort of gaunt, haggard look about her, as though she had just been living in a cave, with no daylight or food for miles around. Basically, the Gryffindor girl looked as though she could snap any second. Must just be a look though- she was daughter of THE Harry Potter, and had two older brothers. She had to be pretty tough to withstand all that. Grouping up as an only child, Daniel had sometimes wished that he had a sibling. Someone to toughen him up a little. When he was younger, he was absolutely terrified of his father- it definitely would've helped to have an older relation around to cheer him up. Oh, Daniel didn't need toughening up now; he managed. Plus he had a big selection of family members right here at Hogwarts: his dad slept with a lot of women. The result? Lots of baby Greybacks, all over the country. Now, the Gryffindor had a couple of elder siblings who he was fairly close to. But if he had grown up with an older brother- or two, like Lily did- he sure would've been tough.
It was customary after one saves another to check if they were okay, and this is what Daniel had done. He had only met her the one time, at one of James Potter's many Gryffindor raves (or as he phrased it to the Gryffindor Head of House- a Gryffindor 'work social'). Even then, they had made small talk for a few minutes until James noticed his 'baby sister' at his "cool party", and so kicked her out. Even so, Daniel was still slightly concerned about what would cause a seemingly healthy girl from afar to nearly collapse like that. There was a bit of an awkward silence between them- made less uncomfortable by the sounds of Hogwarts students chattering as the crowd they had just been stuck in the middle of made their way into the Three Broomsticks. The noise faded away until it was gone, and the only sounds were the quick footsteps of shoppers making their way to their next destination. Daniel wondered whether perhaps Lily had not heard his question- not hard, considering the cacophony they had just been surrounded by. He was about to repeat it for her, when she suddenly seemed to get back in focus, and reply with a simple "yes".
Daniel blinked. She obviously was not all right, people that were all right did not go around practically fainting in the middle of the streets. Lily gave the impression that she realised that 'yes' was not a sufficient answer, and continued. "Thanks for saving me, I felt a bit suffocated with all the people around me.", she mumbled, avoiding his eyes. She seemed slightly nervous about her reply, but perhaps she was just embarrassed about nearly fainting. Even so, she looked unwell. "Erm… do you want me to take you to the Hospital Wing? You don't seem too well.", Daniel asked awkwardly. He really did not know what to do in these situations. Did Lily want help? Or did she want him to leave her alone. God, women.

thought ran though lily's mind, all of them concerned about whether daniel was going to believe her or not. he was a stranger after all, so there was no way he could know if she was lying. then again, her own family members didn't know either. sure, they had their suspicions but none would have ever guessed that she had an eating disorder. they would just think that she hadn't been taking her illness seriously and they would get mad at her. they would never realize that it wasn't that she was having a problem. not that she wanted them too. though a part of lily did. it was silly, but she wanted to feel like they cared enough about her. she was the youngest girl, and they had never felt the need to give her extra attention because she had her brothers. but they were boys, they wouldn't notice anything. hell, her brother couldn't tell when she dyed her hair that one time. lily laughed at the though, but felt immediate guilt. she was lying to them, just like she was lying to daniel. he might not have been a close friend, but he still tried to save her.
and for that, lily would always be grateful. he seemed nice when she met him, but she never thought he would go out of his way to save a girl her had only met once. guess she should have stuck around the party a bit longer. unfortunately, her brother would never let her go to a party, let alone one that would most likely have firewhiskey brought to it. she was young, but she was not ignorant. as soon as half your house started complaining about headaches all at the same time, you knew that something was up. anyways, she tried thinking of something else to tell him but no words came out of her mouth. lily was always quiet anyways, so she was sure that daniel might not mind. then the subject of going to the hospital wing came up. she quickly shook her head. she was sure that if she went, word would get around to her brothers who would surely tell her parents and then she would be in for trouble. "that's okay, i'm better now" lily said, hoping that she could convince him that she really was all right. but just in case, she grabbed a chocolate from her bag and gobbled it up, feeling slightly better.
lily knew chocolate wouldn't be enough but it was all she could do for now. "if you want you can even stick around for a bit longer to make sure i'm all right" lily suggested. it was risky having daniel around, especially if she had another episode again. but it would be riskier having him leave. for all she knew, he could bump into her brothers and spill all the details of her close fainting call. no, lily would not let that happen.
